"I hope to capture energy and verve through improvising. I like a freshly done, effortless quality; bright, open, buoyant, free, light, air-bound; not heavy or ponderous. My training in abstract expressionism referred to spiritual concerns. I want to allow for my subconscious to be part of the whole process. The birds and animals are metaphors for flight, escape and vulnerability. For many works, shaping takes place from the outset and I try to finish with the same amount of directness. " - Donald G.
